Accommodations - Spain - Host Families

What is the family like?

The host family may be a married couple or a single woman with or without children. The most important thing is that there is a family atmosphere and that you get to know the lifestyle of the country in which you are studying. Some families have other students, native or international, but only Spanish is spoken in the home. You will find it easy to make friends with the other students in the home.

Host Family Conditions

You can choose between a single room or a double room that you will share with another person. If you are going to register with another person, we can place you in the same family. You can either have a single room each, or stay together in a double room.

Spanish Course Accommodations in Spain You can choose from the following two options:
1. Half board (2 meals): breakfast and lunch or dinner.
2. Full board (3 meals): breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Meals in a typical Spanish Family are eaten at the following times:
Breakfast: 08:00 - 08:30 h. Very light: Coffee or milk with biscuits or toast.
Lunch: 14:00 - 15.00 h. Main meal of the day. Typical homemade meals.
Dinner: 21:00 - 22:30 h. Light meal.
If you have any special dietary needs, and have not informed the family before arrival you should tell the host mother on the first day.

At the time of Registration, you can state your preferences such as a smoking/non-smoking family, a family with/without children, a family without animals (in the case of allergies), special dietary requests (e.g.: vegetarian, allergy to certain foods)... Please include these details when you send us your registration form.

The reservation for the host family works on a weekly basis, however extra days can be arranged. For all courses, the reservation with the family will begin one day before the course starts (Sunday) and will end one day after the course finishes (Saturday). If you are going to arrive in Spain a few days before the course starts or will be leaving a few days later, we can also arrange extra nights in the host family.

Sheets and Laundry:

The family will provide sheets and towels for you. All you have to bring are personal objects. Laundry in normal amounts is included in the price of the accommodations. As a minimum the family is obliged to wash the clothes at least once a week. On the first day, you should ask where you could leave your dirty clothes. This is normally in a bag or a basket in the student’s room.

You can receive calls at the family’s home but cannot make calls. There are many public telephones where you can make telephone calls as well as special long distance telephone centers that you can call from at a reduced international rate. These businesses also sell international calling cards that you can use from a pay phone or mobile phone.

We also recommend that you look for companies in your own country that have “Reverse Charge” telephone cards so that you can talk with the telephone operator in your own country and save money.

Excursions or trips:

If you have lunch included in your meal plan, and are going away for the day on an excursion, the host family will prepare a packed lunch. You should inform the host family of this one day in advance. If you are going to travel during your stay with the family, you will not be refunded for any meals or nights missed.
